Where I'm From POEM By: Brenda Jauregui

Im from Sinaloa Mexico were you can go to the beach and kick back and enjoy your day. Where you can go and enjoy your raspado without someone criticizing the way you look or the way you eat. Where you find and see all kinds of people burning in the sun. Where you can say hey this is a real life.....

But know I’m from Oakland where you go and see all kinds of gangs in every street pimping like they ain’t fitna be a wanna be..... Where you see red, blue and black rags in every street. Where you see R.I.P. sings, candle, balloons, and shirt of people that been killed. And young guys and girls that are praying for them to rest in peace.

I’m from a quiet street where you hear the kids laughter every day. I’m from a nice small family where my mother is at home taking care of the kids, to my father at work so my family can be feed, to me and my sister at school to be someone

one day.

That’s where in from.... That will never change....

  1. Brenda, you might want to think about adding some similes and dialogue. the rest of it is perfect. You're distributive and it really paints a picture in my head with the raspados and the beaches. Sinaloa seems to be a beautiful and peaceful place. I hope I get the chance to go and visit sometime. you might want to add some detail on how many brothers and sisters you have and how your mom and dad look. You know add some more detail.
